No one would have guessed that nine months after my sister and brother-in-law were married, they would be welcoming a sweet, little babe into their lives! Actually, I take that back. I guessed. The day before they told us the unexpected and exciting news, I guessed they would have a baby before too long, before they planned to, because that’s just the way their relationship has gone. It’s never unfolded according to their plan. Knowing God has his hand on their lives, though, is what matters. Immigration, student visas, work visas, long distance, postponed wedding…challenge after challenge, and while getting pregnant in their first year of marriage made for one more, it also may be the easiest thing they ever did. And besides meeting and getting married, the best.

I am giddy with excitement for the arrival of Whitney and Manolo’s baby, and to share the ups and downs of mama-hood with my sister. And for Zaya to have a cousin! Seriously, with my baby turing one next month, I’m ready for more newborn cuddles.

We took their photos on our side of the border, at the Nooksack river in Everson, Washington, and at our place. Not unlike the Vancouver area, the Pacific Northwest provides all kinds of beautiful light and perfect backdrops…

Such a gorgeous mama! See you soon, little one! xo

Thank you, Anna, that means so much! I answer that question in this faq post on post processing. I use the same preset for all my images. It came in the first film pack, but I can’t remember which one specifically!ReplyCancel

These are the prettiest maternity photos I have ever seen! Wow! Great job. That is going to be one cute baby… all the bestReplyCancel

In all my years of knowing her (twenty-plus) I’ve never seen her as happy or confident as I see her with him. When you’re close friends with someone for that long, you see each other through many ups and downs, highs and lows. This September, I can’t wait to see her marry her best friend, dream come true, the man that she waited for, and stand beside her as her maid of honor.

I won’t be photographing their wedding, so we took the opportunity to document their enagement together at the beach at Semiahmoo. It was a perfect evening and so much fun!

Nicole and Tony, so excited for you two. xo!

My baby turned ten months old last weekend. Ten months of the hardest and best thing I’ve ever done, this being a mom business. Some days I’m surprised I’m still standing on the amount of sleep we get. Some days I’m surprised I haven’t pulled my hair out (oh wait, half of it fell out anyways), but I have definitely given way to many tears. Some days I wake up feeling completely motivated, believing I can do anything I set my mind to, and other days I feel completely overwhelmed by the lack of check marks on my to-do list.

Being a mom who works at home is the hardest thing I’ve done. Being a mom in the middle of the night (or all night) when your baby won’t sleep without you…while trying to maintain your sanity…the hardest thing I’ve done.

But then there are the squeals and the giggles, the tugging at my legs and the wet kisses and sleepy snuggles. There are the baby hands and toes that I still cannot get over. The swirl of hair on top of his head. The way he pulls down the big, cozy blanket off the couch and cuddles and tumbles with it on the floor. No matter the pile of things to stress about, there is joy in these little things. Knowing you’ve been entrusted with this sweet, little being, who needs you and wants you and depends fully on you…

The thing is, through it all, I get to be a mom and that’s the best.
