This past weekend Isaiah turned a month old, and it had me sharing a few extra snuggles with him, and gazing a little longer at his tiny, perfect toes. Already his smallest of clothes are packed away as he’s put on more than a couple pounds as of a week ago. Many of the days and nights of the past month are a blur. But all I want to do is soak in his newness and breathe in his soft scent, remembering these first days with our son and first days being a mom.

Lingering in bed in the morning with my boys is my favourite…after getting a string of two hour stretches of sleep throughout the night we decide it’s finally time to start the day. Isaiah is bright eyed and we have some good family time of snuggles, conversations and a smile here and there from our little. And there’s coffee, dark and strong.

It’s true what they say, that you can’t prepare for what it’s like to become a parent; you hear of the sleepless nights but until you battle through a night feeding with your eyes crossed from fatigue, sometimes going through two diaper changes at a time and then praying your baby settles and falls asleep until both mama and baby are crying, you don’t know the weight of those words. But then that sweet babe locks eyes with you and you melt for him all over again…and that other stuff fades into the background.

I was afraid I wouldn’t be up to taking photos with tending to a newborn but I literally have hundreds of photos of Isaiah from his first month. It was an overwhelming task to narrow them down, but here is a sprinkling of favourites…

    Mikaela (and Shane),
CONGRATULATIONS on your little bundle of joy! He is so precious!

My husband and I (after ten years married and six years of trying) are expecting our first baby; we are due in January! We cheated and looked, and we are going to be blessed with a wee little man as well!

One of the sweet ladies at my church recommended this book and while I don’t know what child-rearing philosophy y’all are leaning towards, I felt compelled to share the recommendation. This is not advice (how could I possibly give advice?! :), it is just something that appealed to me as a fellow new mom: full nights sleep sooner rather than later.

The book title is “On Becoming Baby Wise: Giving Your Infant the Gift of Nighttime Sleep” and the authors are Gary Ezzo and Robert Buckman.

One thing I am learning, one must go with what works for one’s own family. Some people are adamantly against scheduling babies and some people are adamantly for it. I have been reading this book and find the concepts to be in line with what I think I agree with right now (in the thick of things, minds can quickly change) and many of the moms at my church are of the “you can comfortably, easily, and in a non-barbaric way get a baby on a schedule” group. I sure hope the scheduling thing works for us, because sleep is definitely important. ;)

A while back (LONG before I was expecting), I read “Bringing Up Bebe” by Pamela Druckerman and found her writing and observations to be refreshing and honest…and also helpful.

Your little Isaiah (I love his name! We had Isaiah on our list too, but it doesn’t go with our last name so well), he is such a adorable, handsome, and all around darling tiny little man!
Congratulations again, what a beautiful adventure parenting must be. :)

    God bless!ReplyCancel

Oh the little stork bites on the back of his neck, adorable! Isla had a bunch of them and think they are the cutest ever. Congrats on making it a month through blurry nights and strong dark coffee. :)ReplyCancel

With Whitney and Manolo’s engagement interrupted and extended by a 13 month immigration-forced hiatus for the groom, this celebration was a long time coming ;) Six of us girls snuck away for a two night getaway to Whidbey Island for my sister’s stagette last month. We rented a gorgeous house by the water and while the weather wasn’t exactly the beach weather we had hoped for, a great time was had by all. I went knowing that at 39 weeks pregnant, baby could decide to crash the party, but gratefully, he let this mama-t0-be celebrate with the girls.

I love the colors Whitney chose for their wedding! And I was super excited to find this tassel garland in those colors on Etsy.

Whitney is trained in baking & pastry so we decided to have our own little wedding cake decorating contest in teams of two…

We put the vote to Instagram and fittingly enough, the bride won!

Then we had a little fun with the bride – gave her an eye mask, a hefty glass of wine (or two) and another cake to decorate…

Thanks for the fun, girls! And cheers to Whitney becoming Mrs Artime in a little over one month! xo

It’s been one week since we welcomed our sweet boy into the world, who immediately found a permanent home in our hearts. Isaiah Tate Bradley was born on Wednesday, July 30 at 11:27am, weighing 7 pounds 9 ounces.

It’s been week of quickly adapting to life as a family of three and being overwhelmed by love and adoration for him, who by grace is ours to keep. It’s been a week of little sleep but waking each morning excited to be his mama alongside Shane, his champion of a dad.
