Atop a Maui hillside ranch, in the middle of a helicopter tour of the island, they ran through the grass to the mango tree perched beside the old stone wall. The setting couldn’t be more perfect for this “just for fun” photo shoot. Clouds hovered nearby and the sun sparkled on the ocean far below. Trevor held Megs’ hand in one of his, while the other was tucked behind his back wearing the diamond on his pinky. We backed away with our cameras, I grabbed my zoom lens, and Trevor began to tell Megs the real reason they were there. The exact words cannot be recollected, but the feelings were written across their faces, as were her tears of surprise and complete joy.
I feel so lucky to call this beautiful couple family. Megs is my cousin, and a few days before we all left for a vacation together on Maui, Trevor sent me a message that had me jumping up and down in my kitchen. He planned to propose to Megs, in the middle of a helicopter tour of the island! Trevor and Megs already had a special place in their hearts for Maui, and it will be a destination they will return to for years to come…so what better spot to officially kick off their life together?
Megs didn’t see it coming. The helicopter ride was stunning, in spite of the clouds, and as we touched down on Ulupalakua Ranch on the slopes of Haleakala, even my heart started racing in anticipation of what was to come next…

Megs and I have been through it all together: getting into trouble, laughing til it hurts, heartbreak, navigating high school, growing up. Seeing her in love and begin to build a life together with an amazing guy, one who takes care of her and makes her laugh, has me so happy for her. For them.
