I love spending time in the Manitoba prairies. The wide open fields, the never ending sky dotted with clouds. The mountains here at home in BC are lovely of course, but a change of scenery can be a breath of fresh air.
I love spending time with my family in the prairies. They live in a small village outside of Winnipeg and time with them is always special. There’s my aunt’s incredibly warm hospitality and her homemade rhubarb muffins, tweibach and blueberry scones that I couldn’t get enough of. There’s endless amounts of exploring by bicycle or quad or by foot, stumbling upon abandoned barns or startled deer. There’s the farm my dad grew up on, the one that’s featured in all the bedtime stories he used to tell us.
Memories depend on the company you share them with. When that company is family and moreover, when that family includes great friendships, those memories are all the sweeter.

Wow! Its absolutely stunning there! I have never been to Manitoba and never imagined it looked like that! Now I really want to go!
Mikaela & Shane it was a pleasure having you. We look forward to many more visits from you in the future. Next time bring your parents! The photos are beautiful as always!
You saw an owl! So cool! These shots are beautiful. My bro lives out in Winnipeg – different life :)
So fun!!! I love posts like this! :) You’re gorgeous and so are your pictures! You’re so good at taking just nature and candid shots. What lens did you use for these?
Oh, Mikaela! So beautiful. I want to hang them on my wall so I can see them everyday. :)
love these pictures!! Manitoba looks beautiful!
This is so great. Come back soon!
I love this post, Mikaela! Thanks for representing the prairies so well – the photos are beautiful!
We definitely have to go with you next time…I’ve NEVER seen Manitoba look like that before. Maybe it’s the springtime, maybe it’s the lovely people you hung out with (ok, we have hung out with them before) or maybe it’s the one behind the camera. Let’s plan on it! :)
Mikaela can capture the prairies like no one else can! Keep planning Risa.
Mikaela, these photos are mind-blowing! I have a soft spot for the area around Winnipeg too, even though I’ve only been once. The people there were so warm and friendly and lovely and I actually felt homesick for the place when I left! Glad you enjoyed your trip :)
Hi Mikaela!
Just stopping by to say hello and seek out some inspiration…aaaaand now I want to go to Manitoba :) Lovely, lovely photos. I hope all is well with you and Shane and I hope our paths cross again one day. Take care!
Winnipeg is my second home to me :) all of my family lives up there & I used to spend the entire summer there when I was younger. I’m excited to be shooting some weddings there over the next year, a new excuse to visit family & home!! :):)
