cheer, contentment & hope

I remember now why I could argue that Spring is my favourite season – it’s in the color that returns to our world and sunshine that fills our windows. It makes me want to pick blossoms to fill our home and grow things on our tiny patio, while Shane just laughs at me but at the same time suggests a trip to the nursery.

I surprised myself with how much work I got done last week while Shane was away for work, and so when Friday presented itself I was able to let go a little. Embrace the weekend. Relish a lingering coffee with a dear girlfriend, one who is wise and lovely and godly and also a newlywed. We get to challenge each other and relate to one another.

I met up with another girlfriend of mine and photographed her sweet, crazy, beautiful girl. There were family dinners and a celebration of 40 years of marriage, styled by the lovely Alyssa Short Design and catered by my favourite chefs, my sister Whitney and her boyfriend Manolo.

Shane and I also celebrated our anniversary by spending a leisurely day together in Bellingham. Though in light of 40 years, 6 months is hardly even the beginning. Someone we chatted with at the anniversary party said that when asked how long she and her husband have been married, she simply replies with “not long enough.” I think I’ll adopt that line, too.

There was Easter and the resurrection of our Savior.

So here’s to a weekend of things that bring cheer, that bring contentment, that bring hope. And here’s to many more.

That’s so cute the quote about marriage “not long enough”. I had the pleasure of photographing this week a family, and the father just turned 60 years old. And the two of them were like that. It was so amazing to see an older couple so in love! I have no doubt that will be you & shane :)
All the best – Ashley

Love this! That party looks super fun, and I’m sure the food was delicious. And the flowers blooming on that tree are amazing!! So, so pretty.
