Traveling is a wonderful thing. Stepping out of routine, acquainting yourself with some place new or revisiting some place lovely and familiar. I have an affection for maps and love to pin point the distance you’ve traveled – like on Google Maps and you’re the blue dot that seems nearly off the grid, and it dawns on you how far you are.
But then there’s coming home.
Home. I like my new home. I like coming home together, waking up together and making it feel like ours. This time, coming home meant leaving the heat and sunshine of summer and re-entering a world of cold and rain (and sometimes snow!) but ultimately – the growing festiveness that brings us to Christmas. It meant trading flip flops for fur-lined slippers and buffets for home cooked turkey soup and corn bread from a box.
Home means close quarters and taking the stairs and errands and laundry (plus a new vacuum but I have a sinking feeling the novelty of that will wear off soon – who enjoys vacuuming, really??). But it’s lovely and familiar. Traveling makes me appreciate the comfort of home and home makes me appreciate the freedom of travel.
PS – can’t wait to share more from the recent Mexico wedding, that which brought two loves – travel and photography – together, to make me feel doubly blessed. Happy Friday!
